There is a maxim in computerese of GIGO
(Garbage In Garbage Out) and denoted the solid fact that our computers can only give back what we put into them as data. The same is true of our minds and souls. What comes out of our mouths is reflective of what we have put into our minds and hearts:
"You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these."
Lent is a time when we examine our lives and daily practices. Maybe we need to alter and delete some of the data we bring into our lives via, books, movies, music, media or conversations. One of the time-honored Lenten traditions is spiritual reading, with books on prayer, grow in faith, the lives of the saints and Church teaching.
To that effect, we will be setting up a ‘Lenten Library’ of recommended books for Lent at Saint Mary Church and Saint Martha Church. Please select a book and make it yours.
Spiritual reading is often enhanced by highlighting passages for later referral. These books are yours for
free due to the generosity of the Sisters of Chretienne at Wrentham and Father Bill who have both downsized their libraries and want to share these volumes with people who want to nourish their minds and souls with nourishing material for Lenten reflection.
