It is with sadness that I share with you that Fr. Vincent Maffei, pastor of St. Martha Parish from 1992 to 1998, has passed from this life to the Lord's loving care. Having lived to be 80 years old, Fr. Maffei died Thursday, January 31st, after a brief hospitaliza-tion. His funeral was celebrated at St. Joseph-St. Laz-arus Parish in East Boston, where he was born. Father Vin spent the last week of his life surrounded by his family, including his brother and sisters, his nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. It was a crowded hospital room, but he enjoyed being with everyone as he reminisced about his life and his 55 years as a priest. He will be greatly missed by his parishioners, family, and brother priests!
This Sunday we are celebrating the 10:00am Mass at St. Martha Parish as a Memorial Mass for Fr. Maffei. Those who wish to offer Mass cards or other condolences may send them to his brother: Mr. Thomas Maffei, 11 Marmion Road, Melrose, MA 02176-2907. In lieu of flowers, the family has invited contributions to be made to Regina Cleri, 60 William Cardinal O'Connell Way, Boston, MA 02114, which is the home for retired priests of the Archdiocese of Bos-ton where Fr. Vin spent the last five years living among his priest brothers.
Eternal rest grant unto Father Maffei, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the Faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
