The holidays are haunted days,
Peopled by our yesterdays.
For those we've lost whose memory stays,
Are present to us in myriad ways.
Within our recollection of yuletides past,
So many are gone whose memories last.
Childhood dreams of Santa and his eight reindeer,
Replaced by reverie reunions
with those we hold dear.
The glistening ornaments on our Christmas Trees,
Represent those who adorn our family trees.
Star of Bethlehem, shining bright,
Lead those we love to everlasting light.
At our family tables, their empty places,
Are occupied now by younger, expectant faces.
Those tousled heads of a new generation,
Have re - energized our holiday preparation.
Traditions treasured and then passed on,
Will live on in our families when we are gone.
Lord, bless our families during this Christmas Season,
With a deep appreciation for its purpose and reason.
Dispel all the darkness and distress in our family lives,
Instill that peace and harmony
for which each family strives.
May the Holy Family in that straw - strewn stable,
Watch over and bless our family table.
May Jesus, Mary and Joseph lovingly pray,
For those we hold close in our hearts
