To see the excitement in the children’s faces, you would think they were at an amusement park! That’s how special Maggie Hoagland and other volunteers from both parishes helped these young kids feel at our
Summer Bible Fun week these past few days.
The theme this year was “Superheroes - Heroes of Faith”, with each day celebrating and learning about some of the great heroes of the Bible. Naturally each child got to decorate their own superhero mask and cape, which they wore whenever they were in the hall of superheroes! They only took them off when they went out for outdoor projects and games.
The week ended with families joining us for a prayer service and a chance to show off their crafts and the songs they learned. Their parents were “super” happy with how the week went, thanks to some truly remarkable volunteer planners, leaders, and friends to the children of our collaborative parishes. In addition to Maggie, our adult volunteers included
Bobbie Oles, Val Comes, Pauline Chute, and Kathy Hallett. They were ably assisted by our youth volunteers Julia Zimmerman, John Pearl, Annie Pearl, Molly O’Brien, and Pete Cataldo. (Please forgive me if I accidentally left anyone out!)
In an example of Christian hospitality, even the older participants helped the others to feel welcome and also participated. Without such kind and loving volunteers such a special opportunity would not be possible - thank you all!
Let’s use this occasion to reflect on the values we chose to embrace in our Plainville-Wrentham Collaborative:
Love, Compassion, Welcoming, and Boldness. We selected and reflected on these values as part of our Local Pastoral Plan, “Go Make Disciples.” On our
website pwc.church you can find a link to read some reflections on these values.
Please bring these values to prayer and think about more ways we can embrace and live them in our parish and collaborative families.
