“Homecoming” September is traditionally a ‘homecoming’ time as parishioners from Saint Martha, Plainville and Saint Mary, Wrentham return home from their summer destinations. Our parishes will celebrate this homecoming with a Picnic in the Park next Sunday, September 10th from 1:00 – 4:00 at the Plainville Park located directly across from Cumberland Farms.
The Picnic in the Park will also be a Homecoming for Maggie Quealey and Ry McDonald. They just completed a successful summer concert tour throughout New England as a popular musical combo,
Copilot, generating a faithful following all along the way.
Copilot will offer a wide selection of traditional pop and rock music favorites in the gazebo. Ry and Maggie are both graduates of King Philip Regional High School. Maggie calls Plainville home, while Ry holds claim to both Wrentham and Norfolk as home towns. Many of you enjoyed their performance earlier this summer at the July 9th ‘Concert on the Common’ in Wrentham.
Copilot has appeared regularly throughout the area, including The Gavel and the Proctor House. It will be wonderful to welcome home Ry and Maggie to provide beautiful music for our ‘Picnic in the Park.’ Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy many traditional favorites, as well as some original music created by
Co-Pilot.
A traditional barbecue lunch will be served under the park pavilion as you enjoy an opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones! The parish picnics of the past few years have been wonderful multi-generational gatherings with something for everyone! Tickets are priced at $7.00 per person with a $25.00 maximum for two adults and five children under twelve. Tickets will be on sale following each of the Masses at Saint Martha Parish and Saint Mary Parish this weekend. Tickets are also available at both parish offices and online through our parish web sites.
Visitors to Wrentham and Plainville are always struck by the spirit of the traditional small New England town in both communities. That spirit of community carries over into both Saint Martha Parish and Saint Mary Parish and our collaborative activities. We may not yet be able to boast that we are like
Cheers ‘where everybody knows your name!” We do expect that at the end of the day, however, ‘You will be very glad you came.’ We worship together throughout the year, yet seldom have opportunities to put names on the faces of those we see at Mass week after week. The
Picnic in the Park next Sunday will offer you a golden opportunity to put some more names on faces as we continue build up an even stronger spirit of community within our parishes and collaborative!
