Last Sunday, many people from St. Martha & St. Mary Parishes did not let the rain prevent them from gathering for a fun time at our church fall picnic! I informally referred to it all weekend as the “church cook-out, eat-in party,” since we had to move the festivities into St. Martha Hall. God’s humor showed in that the real theme this year was having fun in the “SONshine,” and indeed the joyful gathering, bright light and fabulous live music more than overshadowed the grey weather outside. We will share many more pictures on our website.
This wonderful event was possible only because of the dedicated preparation and service of many people (too many to name them all). With the leadership of co-chairs Sue Hines from St. Martha and Diane O’Connell from St. Mary and the entire Collaborative Picnic Committee; Tim Pac and Anne DiSanto who set up the hall for music and as many tables and chairs as we could fit; April Frey and the teen volunteers who adapted children’s games for the indoor setting; the faithful support of the Knights of Columbus Councils in both parishes grilling the food outside in the rain(!),and all who offered donations for the meal and raffles to make important community-building event affordable for everyone. We especially appreciated the parishioners who shared their musical talents for an eclectic mix of music that people stayed to enjoy long after they had finished eating. We are grateful to all these people, and to all who purchased tickets and those who participated in this experience of Christian community!
