Within 60 days of your wedding date, you will need to apply for a marriage license through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As a couple, you must go together to any Town Hall within the state, provide proof of age (birth certificate or passport), provide social security number, and pay a fee. There is a three-day waiting period before the license is issued.
The license should be given to the presiding minister prior to your wedding date or brought to the rehearsal. After you are married, the completed license will be mailed by the priest or deacon to the town hall/city where the license was issued.
If you are already civilly married and your ceremony is being planned to convalidate your marriage in the Church, you should provide a copy of your civil wedding certificate instead of a marriage license.
