The Light Is On for You
Returning to Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilliation
To make this beautiful sacrament of God’s loving mercy more available to people during Lent, parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Boston are opening their doors on a weekday evening to be available for people to return to the Sacrament of Confession and Reconciliation. In most parishes, the “light is on for you” on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm; in our Plainville-Wrentham Collaborative Parishes, one of our priests is available on Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 pm in the vestibule of St. Mary church (enter through the side ramp). Except on Tuesday March 16 - Come and enjoy our Mission - ' Suffering and Hope on Our Lenten Journey.'
Some receive this sacrament frequently, while others have not been in many, many years; regardless, Christ and His Church. God created each of us and calls us “very good” (Gen. 1:26-31), yet each of us is also weighed down by guilt for our sins (Rom. 3:22-26). Why not take advantage of these extra opportunities to unload your spiritual “baggage” at the foot of the Cross? The hard part (confessing) is only one part of this sacrament – then God takes the lead and does what we cannot do for ourselves. Handouts with guidance and prayers are available – there is no need to remember what to do, as the priest is there to help and guide you.
We ask Jesus (who is present and acting through the priest) to bring us forgiveness, but he brings so much more: healing, Divine Mercy, and His Grace. The priests are here for you – both as spiritual fathers who guide us, but also as your brothers in Christ who share the journey of faith. They know their own weaknesses and need to receive God’s mercy and forgiveness through this sacrament themselves, yet Christ calls them to act on His behalf to make present God’s merciful love for others through this beautiful sacrament.
So “the light is on for you” … will you stop by for a few moments to allow Christ to be your light in the darkness, to lift the burden of guilt and lighten your journey?
