Mercy Me! Saint Martha Parish, Plainville and Saint Mary Parish, Wrentham are pleased to announce that their collaborative Lenten Mission for 2018 will take place at Saint Mary Church, Wrentham on March 5-6-7 from 7:30-8:30 each evening.
Father Michael Della Penna, O.F.M. has generously accepted our invitation to preach the mission this year. Father Michael is a Franciscan Friar who grew up in Boston’s North End, like Father Rick Martignetti, O.F.M who preached our Lenten Mission two years ago. Father Rick and Father Michael have been close friends since the days of their youth at Saint Leonard’s Church in Boston’s North End and they have been a ‘Dynamic Duo’ as preachers since their ordinations to priesthood as Franciscan Friars during the 1990’s. Father Michael is a graduate of Boston Latin School, The Weston School of Theology, Cambridge and the Pontifical University of Saint Anthony in Rome.
Father Michael will be travelling to Wrentham from Guatemala where he has been engaged in pastoral ministry in Guatemala City for the past decade with special dedication to the pastoral care of the children at ‘Orfanato Valle de los Angelese,’ (The Orphanage of the Valley of the Angels.) Father Michael is widely admired as a Spirit-filled, charismatic preacher of the Gospel in the simplicity of Saint Francis of Assisi. His message will certainly resonate with the teachings of Our Holy Father, Pope Francis.
Father Michael will introduce the theme of the mission, “Mercy Me!” on Monday evening.
Tuesday evening will focus on God’s mercy experienced in God’s forgiving love, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Wednesday evening will focus on the ways in which God continues to reveal His mercy, especially through the continuing presence of Jesus in the world
Father Michael will introduce the theme of the mission, “Mercy Me!” on Monday evening as he invites us into a deeper appreciation and appropriation of the infinite mercy of God the Father that was revealed most fully in the saving death of His Son, Jesus, on the cross. Father Michael will invite us to bathe once again in the fullness of God’s mercy which we received through the waters of Baptism.
Tuesday evening will focus on God’s mercy experienced in God’s forgiving love, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A number of priests will be available as confessors to offer the Sacrament of Penance during the Tuesday evening service.
Wednesday evening will focus on the ways in which God continues to reveal His mercy, especially through the continuing presence of Jesus in the world. Father Michael will preach from his standard words of self-description “I am just a nobody telling everybody about Somebody who can save everybody.” All are welcome!
