The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick confers a special grace on Christians who are experiencing difficulties related to illness or old age.
The sacrament helps unite the sick person to the passion of Christ, helps to strengthen and give courage to the individual as he/she endures sufferings, helps to restore health if it is conducive to the salvation of the individual’s soul, forgives sins if the individual was not able to obtain it through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and prepares the individual for passing over to eternal life with God.
A request for Anointing can be made by contacting the parish office. During non-business hours, please call the St. Mary Rectory office (508-384-3373) and use the prompts to contact the Priest on call.
In the epistle of James (Jas. 5:14-15) it is written: “Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up: and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” (check this passage).
